Working with what I've got

I've been trying to use up craft supplies that I've been hoarding for awhile.  This has resulted in some fun things and some messes.

First off, I came across some home decor fabric I bought on sale at JoAnn's at least one year ago (maybe two).  We've been alternating 2 styles of pillows and they are both falling apart--the red ones are from Crate and Barrel (at least 5 years old) and the brown ones are from Pier One (only a year old, but a year is a long time when you live with Will):

So I whipped up some new pillow covers:

Better, right?  And I consider them free since I bought that fabric so long ago that I can't remember the price.

Next up, I wanted to use up some Kaffe Fassett fabric I purchased at our local quilt shop about 2 years ago.  It was originally intended to be a jumper for baby Anna; I decided instead to use it to make a top for preschooler Anna.  I used the free ruffled halter pattern from the Oliver and S website.  I looove the way it turned out--I didn't take any pictures, but here's one that Mama took while we were in Blountstown:

I had such success with this top, I decided to make another one out of some scraps I had from an early sewing project (that did not go well).  I had some matching pink fabric lying around, so also decided to make some matching shorts (Oliver and S Puppet Show shorts):

I really didn't like the way this outfit turned out.  I'm not one to shy away from a busy print, but these fabrics together ended up being a bit much.  Plus I can't get rid of the feeling that I just made my baby girl a pair of hot pants:

Maybe it's the bright fuschia?

Anna likes twirling with ruffles, though:

I'm not sure this next project counts toward my using up supplies goal, since the only item I used up was a stretched artist canvas that's been sitting in the garage.  I bought it while we were in Gainesville to use for a project for the resident lounge--the project didn't happen, so those canvases (there are actually 2) have now made 3 moves with us.  Anyway, Anna's bow supply has outgrown her small bow holder, so I decided to make her a new one.  I love the new Children at Play line by Sarah Jane (the boy prints, too!) and would love to use it in a quilt for Anna's room (did I mention I have quilting aspirations?), so I decided to order a yard of one of the prints to cover the canvas.  I stapled it (and some batting) to the canvas, then stapled ribbons across it to hold barrettes.  I also added a velcro opening to one ribbon to hold ponytail elastics:

"Just Stay Little"--most of the time, I wish she would! :-)

And finally, the last thing I used up?  Here's a hint:

I purchased a beer-brewing kit for John (and Papa) for Father's Day, and John did his first home-brew last week.  I used the spent grain to make Spent Grain bread and some yummy chocolate-cherry cookies.  Let's hope the beer tastes as good as the cookies did--we'll know in about 3 more weeks.
