So Saturday started at 5 am with a 16-mile run (which explains the early bed time!). After I got back home, I lay around on the floor, watching the kids play and moaning about leg pain. Then John took Anna to birthday party number two, while I took Will shopping. Will has been so cute about trying to come up with gift ideas for Anna, so I took him to Toys R Us and he picked out two gifts for her. Then we went to lunch at Panera--Will's choice, he says they have "pretty much the best mac-n-cheese" and trust me, he would know. Then we went home and wrapped her gifts before she returned from the party. Now I just have to keep Will from taking the gifts from under the tree the next time he gets mad at her. :-)
Since John handled the party duties, I volunteered to take the kids to the Christmas parade. Will's cub scout pack had a float in the parade, and we were all invited to walk behind it. Will and Anna have never been in a parade, and haven't seen one (outside Disney) since they've been old enough to remember it, so they were all excitement.
Will in official uniform, Anna in pack tee:
The float had a candy theme--here's a gingerbread scout:
We had an hour to kill before the parade. Thanks to some rock-paper-scissors...
...Simon-Says, and some general running around and screaming....
...the hour flew by and then we were off, waving at crowds and yelling "Merry Christmas!"
It was all fun until we were almost to the finish---then the rain started. Lots of rain. Anna was already tired of walking and the rain was the last straw, so I ended up carrying her to the end. The crowds mostly left, but our group of scouts, siblings, and parents plowed on, vowing to make it to the judges' table so we could stop, smile, and yell "How sweet it is, scouting with Pack 74!" and hopefully win a ribbon. We were all determination...until we reached the judges' table and realized the judges had made a run for shelter and were nowhere to be seen. Boo.
So the kids and I walked as fast as we could back to the car. I think the kids walked at least 3.5-4 miles all told, which is pretty impressive. They might be ready for a 5k!

Today started with cute outfits for church:
The jeans are a little sad, but I don't think Will has a non-uniform pair of pants that fit him. He just keeps growing!
I love this drop-waisted dress on Anna, but it made her look so much older!
After church we went to birthday party number three, my personal favorite (live animals!). There was a bounce house at this one, and Will sustained two injuries but only cried about one. (He toughed out a scratch to the eye, but a kick to his jaw brought tears. Those bounce houses are rough, I think at one point 3 kids were in tears. Not that it kept them from going back for more.)
The animals trumped the bounce house, though. The Wildlife Tree educator was there--she has done shows at VBS the past two years and is fantastic. This time, she had a ferret, a sugar glider (so cute!), a monitor lizard...
...a ball python (Will's favorite)...
...and a prairie dog. So cute!
I was worried that Will would go home and start revising his Christmas list, but so far he's satisfied with a hermit crab only. For now!
