We went to a chili cook-off in Daytona to cheer on a friend who competed in the contest. We had a great time sampling all the chili, and Will enjoyed the kids' activities, especially the balloons:
(FYI--Balloon swords, not so practical. He popped one before we left the event; after that, he learned to wield it "gently.")
On Saturday, we went to visit some friends who just finised a new media/entertainment room and were kind enough to invite us to watch the UF-South Carolina game with them. I had a fantastic time because their daughters kept Will entertained and I actually got to watch some of the game. I didn't take many pictures, but did snap this one. I think Anna is teething because she is chewing on anything that gets close to her mouth--so this is what happened when John tried to hold her and a beer while watching the game:
Maybe she heard that old wives' tale about putting whiskey on a baby's gums to help with teething? That picture was bad enough, but this one is worse:
(Disclaimer in case the Department of Children and Families and/or the Florida Board of Medicine happens upon this blog: No children were allowed to consume any alcohol at this event, and I do not in any way recommend using whiskey to help with teething. Thank you.)
On Sunday, we went to the Greek Festival at St. Demetrios in Daytona. The church is right on the water and it was such a beautiful breezy day!
Will and John sampling some kebabs and dolmades:
A paddleboat on the river:
Loukamades, my favorite:
Did I mention they are honey-covered and sticky? Will was a mess:
We had an equally busy time this past weekend, starting on Friday when we went to the T-Rex Cafe in Downtown Disney to have lunch with Grandma. Will has been fascinated with dinosaurs since he went to the dinosaur museum in Indianapolis with Barb and John, so we knew he would love this themed restaurant.
Then on to lunch with the big dinos:
The restaurant has a "Build-a-Dino" shop that is similar to "Build-a-Bear" (where you get to stuff a dinosaur and dress it up and name it, etc.). We had planned to let Will build a dinosaur to take home with him, and--to be honest--I was kind of looking forward to it myself. Will, however, dissed the stuffed animal dinosaur in favor of a plastic T-Rex, saying "I want a BIG dinosaur! With BIG teeth!!"
So that's what he got:
On Friday night, John and I went on a rather fancy date night. We went out to dinner with friends and then attended the Margarita Ball. Here we are all dressed up:
(Thanks for the dress, Laurie!)
On Saturday, we travelled to Gainesville for the UF-FIU game. John and Will went to the game and Anna and I went shopping. Will enjoyed the Championship Club seats (we borrowed tickets) because they came with free ice cream:
This next picture cracks me up. Will and John were walking to the stadium and Will suddenly yelled, "Daddy, take a picture of me over here!" And then he posed quite nicely:
Do you think maybe his mama takes a few too many pictures of him? :-)
So that's our two-weekend wrap-up. This weekend will be even more fun because we're getting visitors--can't wait to see Nana, Aunt Missy, and Aunt Laurie!
