Will requested a ninja costume early in October. I have no desire to sew such a thing, so I decided to purchase that one. I was hoping Anna would go along with my plan for her: Angelina Ballerina, similar to this cute outfit. I already have the pattern for that same tutu, and figured I could come up with the rest of the outfit pretty easily, plus I thought that tail would be fun to do. But I reckoned without my ballerina.
Anna went with me to Target to pick up Will's costume, and spotted a pink princess dress in the costume aisle that she WAAAAAANNTED. Cause it's SOOOOOOO PRETTY! And SOOOOOO SPARKLY! It was 4-alarm-meltdown in the Halloween aisle. I said the typical parent-copout phrase ("we'll see") and dragged her back home. After two days of "but don't you want to be Angelina Ballerina?" and two days of Anna being firm, I changed tactics and offered to make Anna a pink princess dress.
Anna looked at me, eyes narrowed, and said, "But I don't want you to knit me a dress. I want the dress at the store."
Ouch!! Stake to my heart. Anyway, I trudged back to Target to pick up the dress. Target was sold out, which I didn't mind at all because, honestly, it was a cheap and tacky princess dress. Not that I am bitter. So I went to the toy section and found a Sleeping Beauty dress and accessories to go with it, tried to ignore the fact that it looked a little like something Belle Watling would wear, and took it home to surprise Anna.
She looooved it:
She liked it so much that she wore it to her Teddy Bear Tea Party at school:
Halloween was a blur because I worked that day and John and I left for New York the next day, so we just took the kids to a festival at their school and skipped trick-or-treating. But they did have a fun time at our church trunk-or-treat before Halloween; here are some pics:
