Six Months (and 4 days) Old

Whew! I finally accomplished Anna's birthday post. Took TONS of pictures, only to discover that most of them were blurry (I hate that), but here are some of the good ones. We also started her on solid foods, but I'll save that adventure for a separate post.

Her newest skill is sitting up all by her sassy self:

She does great until she spies something she wants:

When she reaches for it, she generally ends up like this:

"Thank goodness for carpeting!!!!"

The six-month crib shot (more difficult to get now that she's mobile!):

Anna at six months old:

  • Is sleeping...oh I don't even know what to say about this. She started waking every 3 hours for the past 2 weeks. I thought it was a growth spurt, so just fed her evey time she woke up. Then I thought maybe it was a sign she was ready for solids, so we started her on some cereal. Then we realized that everytime she woke up, she had rolled off her sleep positioner. So we removed the sleep positioner and had 3 nights of horrible sleep until she got used to sleeping flat in the bed. Then she slept through the night for 2 nights straight. Then she got her 6 month shots and we've had 2 horrible nights since then. Maybe she's teething? I'm drinking a lot of coffee to cope.
  • Is squealing. And yelling. And laughing at herself.
  • Loves, loves, loves Will. Loves to watch him, loves to grab and pull his hair. Will loves to tattle on her for doing this and then discipline her--"Be kind Anna! One to another!" I suspect he's told that at school a lot.
  • Hates rice cereal but can't get enough sweet potatoes. More on that later.
  • Weighs 16 pounds and 12 ounces. She is returning to average on the growth chart for weight, although she's still 90th percentile for height. I didn't get the exact numbers because I was too busy comforting her after four shots (ouch! she got her flu shot in addition to the 3 routine ones).
  • Has outgrown most of her 3-6 months clothes and is into 6-12 month clothing.
  • Is still in cloth diapers (and doesn't mind showing them off, see below), but we'll see how this goes as we advance her on solids.

I have 2 videos to share. The first is of her blowing bubbles--I tried to catch her doing this several times and finally accomplished it a week ago. (Ignore John in the background trying to schedule a colonoscopy...hopefully he won't notice that made it into the video. Just consider it a public service announcement!)

Here is a video of Anna sitting. It is a week old and her balance has really improved since then.

That's all for now. Next post: The exciting world of pureed foods. Yum.
