Soccer, Fall 2013 Edition

Anna and I spent the day doing super-secret Christmas stuff.  Honestly, most of my activities lately are unbloggable--either Christmas surprises or HIPAA-prohibited.

Most of Will's soccer season went unblogged this year.  He played his second season in the U8 fall league.  This year, he had a young coach who was very enthusiastic, to the point of adding an additional weekly practice.  That meant soccer took up 3 days per week, which is a lot for a 7-year-old.

The last game was a tournament, and John was working and I was on call.  Will's team played at 8 am and then again at 9 am.  If they won both those games, they would play in the championship game at 11 am.  I was nervous because I had a babysitter coming at noon to watch the kids so I could do hospital rounds, so I was kinda hoping they didn't win.  Which is terrible, I know!  But not an uncommon sentiment among the U8 parents.  I mean, there's only so much kids' soccer you can watch in one morning.

Anyway, they lost both games, we moms did some stealthy high-fives, then put on sympathetic faces as the boys came to the sideline: "Good try!  You did your best!"  Then they got snacks and trophies and all losses were forgotten.  :-)
