From hot and sweaty to ICE!

I made a last-minute decision to run the YMCA 10k this morning--mostly because the girls I usually run with were running in the 5k with their husband and son, which left me no one to run with, and I am now so afraid of bear attack (did you see what happened to that lady in Longwood???) that running alone in my neighborhood freaks me out.  So I decided 6.2 miles with a group was a safer option.

It was fun....and I PR'd.  I could see the clock ticking toward 56:00 when I got close to the finish, so I sprinted to the end in my best Shalane Flanagan impression...but didn't quite make it:

I did finish fast enough for my first-ever age group award, though:

The posted list only had 3 people in my group, and I did feel a little lame for being 3rd out of 3, but I still stuck around to pick up my plaque because I seriously doubt I'll ever win one again.  BUT that list was posted before everyone finished--turns I was 3rd out of 6.  Which is so much better. :-)

My Saturday morning running group (the two in the middle took first and second in their age group for the 5k!):

We spent our afternoon in Orlando at the Gaylord Palms enjoying the ICE! exhibit.

(The minute we put on these loaner coats, I started worrying about head lice.  Bad memories.  That may have to be its own blog post.)

Ice slides!!

Will got a little frozen (it's 8 degrees in there) so we stepped out, warmed up, and headed back.  The cold didn't bother Anna at all, though.  It did make her silly--she was dancing all over the place.

We wound up the afternoon with a Santa visit.  I'll make that another post---gotta stretch this stuff out, lest I end up blogging about cleaning the house or worse. :-)

That ice slide looks like fun. Was it available for adults? :)
Congratulations on your PR. Had to google to figure out what that was!
