Project Elfhood Update

So have you been waiting on pins and needles to see if Will got the elf job?

I admit it has been an all-consuming endeavor over here, to the point that John and I were becoming concerned.  Will was convinced that Santa was going to take him back to the North Pole on Christmas Eve, and had become obsessed with checking his ears for pointy-ness and jumping off the couch to practice his flying skills.  I was more than a little bit hurt that Will was so excited to leave us to live at the North Pole, but Will reassured us that he would visit a few times each year ("like we go to visit Nana and Papa") and said, very seriously, that we had to let him go ("It's my work, Mama.  Like Daddy goes to work.  I HAVE to go do my work.")  On the positive side, John told him that elves are very hard workers--as a result, Will's room has never been cleaner.

Anyway, John and I were starting to plot how we could handle his Christmas Day disappointment at waking up in his own house instead of Santa's house, but we needn't have worried.  We got a little help from the North Pole when this arrived in the mail:

And no, I didn't do this...I'm not that creative.  If you're wondering which of Santa's elves helped with this, I'd recommend glancing at the return address...although I'm going to be deleting this part of the post shortly because Will is rapidly learning how to read.

And here's the letter that was inside (along with some activity sheets)...click on them to enlarge:

Will was only slightly bummed about the 14-year-old age requirement, but he was thrilled about receiving an actual letter from the North Pole.  He immediately set to work on the activity sheets and asked if I could make him some carrots for dinner.  He also tried to practice patience with Anna, although that was his least favorite part of the letter and I will say that directive has been difficult for him!
