Hello Again!

I feel like I need to post something before putting Anna's 10-month birthday post up, because I look like such a slacker for not updating since her 9-month post.  I do have a pretty good excuse--I think everyone who reads this already knows, but John was diagnosed with rectal cancer just before Thanksgiving, so we have been spending a lot of time out of town while he received 6 weeks of chemo and radiation in Gainesville.  That part of his treatment is done, so we are back in town for good (yay!).  I promised him I wouldn't blog about his colon, but the brief story is that he'll have surgery to remove the tumor in a few weeks, followed by 6 months of chemo, then another surgery to reconnect some innards that will be disconnected in the first surgery.  So far he is doing fantastically well--the funniest comment came from our nanny who told him halfway through radiation, "You look good. Actually, you look normal."  He's gonna feel worse before this gets better, but we can't wait until he looks "normal" again when this is all done.

We appreciate all the prayers and encouraging words and emails.  We've really appreciated hearing from people who have been through similar situations--it's actually pretty shocking how many young guys we've come across who have had colorectal cancer.  John has enjoyed going HERE to read survivor stories--maybe he can be a future model when he completes treatment. :-)

Anyway, I just wanted to keep everybody up to date, and will be trying to catch up with the blogging.  We had a fantastic Christmas--everyone came to us this year (Cancer Perk #1--we have a list of perks, I may have to make them a future entry).  Will got loads of dinosaur paraphernalia--dinos are his latest obsession--and Anna got lots of presents but, typical baby, mostly just played with the boxes they came in.  I'll try to get our Christmas pics onto Shutterfly soon, and maybe into a late blog post.

Next up...dino movies!

Angie, I had no idea--I'm so sorry to hear that... about a week ago I was going to write some sarcastic comment about how you have been neglecting your blog. But, now I realize how insensitive that would've been. Glad you filled us in. The Slinkards are praying for you and John, for sure. Love, Susan
